The Hubbard Ginkgo

The Hubbard Ginkgo, came to this country via Richard Bennett Hubbard, a Colonel In the Confederacy, a graduate of Harvard Law School, Governor of Texas from 1876 to 1879, and a great orator, who was appointed by President Grover Cleveland as U.S. Minister to Japan from 1885 to 1889. He gave the tree to a friend who planted it in it’s current location, which eventually came to be the City Hall for the City of Tyler Texas where it grows to this day at the North East corner of the property.

As Time allows, the pages of this site will contain more information about this and other trees of local historical interest, as well as links to other sites with similar and complimentary information, and tips for proper tree care.
